Jean has been one of EDS Homecare’s lovely service users for the last two years. Prior to us, Jean had a very poor experience with care, losing hope in the system, which left Jean feeling very low and insecure about her situation and lack of help.
However, starting with just one daily visit from EDS allowed Jean to regain her confidence and faith in social care.
Regarding this period, Jean said: "My friend has said how much brighter and happier I am since having EDS. I know when they are coming and all the carers who visit me make me feel comfortable and happy, I couldn’t ask for more."
Things took a turn for Jean when she was unfortunately taken unwell into hospital towards the end of 2023. This meant that, on her discharge, Jean required a lot more assistance, now double-handed, and she was unable to walk.
This was no problem for EDS, who picked up right where we left off with Jean and restarted Jean’s package of care with a new view of rehabilitating Jean back to her baseline.
Jean was told she would likely never walk again and would have to use equipment for all her moving and handling. However, Jean’s regular carers were determined to help Jean reach this seemingly unachievable goal:
‘I never thought I would walk again, I wouldn’t be if it wasn’t for one of your carers who helped me. He told me to stand on the rotunda and do a couple of steps, we slowly built up over a few weeks until I reached 100 steps. The carers tell me how proud they are of me and this has made my confidence skyrocket. I now feel able to walk to the bedroom and back again.’
Jean lives with her brother Geoff, who has also had only positive things to say about their shared experience with EDS. Geoff says that when he needs carers, he would not have anyone else.
Jean echoes this sentiment and maintains how good EDS are with Geoff too, always making sure he is okay. Presently, Jean continues receiving double-handed care from EDS's carers.
She is extremely happy with their arrangement and regards the carers as her friends, stating: "They are always jolly, smiling and caring. They brighten my day as soon as I hear them say Good Morning Jean!"
