John has been a service user of EDS for many years now; our mutual journey has taken us from the Peak District to North Derbyshire, through some health scares and changes in needs, and even a wonderful wedding day.
During a particularly tough Christmas, John was unfortunately taken into hospital, and a substantial increase in his needs to promote his rehabilitation and well-being was apparent to enable John to come home.
The coordinators at EDS worked tirelessly to reschedule the rotas to ensure this could be the case and very quickly put together a completely new run around this discharge to reflect John’s preferred times and regular carers.
Commenting on this, John’s partner Lizzie said: "I called EDS to let them know there was talks of John coming home but needing double-handed care.
"The next day, EDS called back to say they had opened a new double-handed run and can fit John back in on the rotas."
Additionally, during some exciting wedding plans for John and Lizzie’s marriage, the decision was made to privately arrange for John’s regular (and favourite!) carer to look after John for the full day.
Both Lizzie and John look back on this decision very fondly and, despite some minor kilt dressing troubles, this allowed Lizzie to relax and enjoy her day, and John had the peace of mind of a well-liked, trusted carer helping him through the process.
John has also had a wonderful experience after using our recently introduced Live-In and Respite care. As John’s main carer, Lizzie does not often find time for solely herself.
Therefore, when Lizzie found out about this new service, she decided to book an initial trip to the seaside, with the peace of mind that John would have 24-hour care from one of our experienced Live-In carers.
This proved very successful for John and Lizzie, and Lizzie has since managed to go on another personal trip, with a view for more in the future, meaning EDS have helped to enable Lizzie to have a break, an often-overlooked side of caring for individuals.
